Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of Northumberland Live (“the Service”), operated by Northcast. By signing in or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. By signing in, you represent that you meet this requirement.

2. Account

You sign in using your Google account. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your Google account. You are responsible for all activity under your account on the Service.

3. Community Events

When posting events, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate and truthful event information
  • Only post events relevant to Northumberland County, Ontario
  • Not post spam, misleading content, or duplicate events
  • Not post events promoting illegal activities
  • Not use the Service for commercial advertising without a Business subscription

Events that receive multiple reports from the community may be automatically flagged and hidden from public view. We reserve the right to remove any event at our discretion.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Attempt to access other users’ accounts
  • Scrape, crawl, or harvest data from the Service beyond normal use
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure
  • Use the Service to distribute malware or harmful content
  • Circumvent rate limits or other technical restrictions

5. Data Layers and Information

The Service displays real-time data from multiple public sources including Environment Canada, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Ontario 511, NOAA, and AIS. This data is provided for informational purposes only.

Data displayed on the Service should not be used as the sole basis for agricultural, safety, navigation, or emergency decisions. Always consult official sources and use professional judgment.

6. Business Subscriptions

Business tier subscriptions are billed monthly through Stripe. You may cancel at any time. Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis. Business tier features include enhanced event visibility on the map.

7. Intellectual Property

The Service, its design, and original content are owned by Northcast. Data from third-party sources is attributed to its respective providers. Event content you submit remains yours, but you grant us a license to display it publicly on the Service.

8. Limitation of Liability

The Service is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Northcast shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

9. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time for violation of these Terms. You may stop using the Service at any time.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada.
