Northumberland Live (“the Service”) is operated by Northcast (“we”, “us”, “our”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.

1. Information We Collect

a) Account Information

When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from your Google account. We store this information to identify you on the platform and associate you with events you create.

b) Event Data

When you create a community event, we store the event details you provide: title, description, category, date, time, location, and any website link. Your name is associated with events you create.

c) Usage Data

We collect basic analytics about how you use the Service, including pages visited and features used. We use Vercel Analytics for this purpose. We do not use third-party advertising trackers.

d) Location Data

If you grant permission, we access your device’s geolocation to center the map on your area. This data is processed in your browser and is not sent to our servers.

2. How We Use Your Information

To authenticate you and manage your account
To display community events you create on the public map
To enable event interaction features (interested/going, reporting)
To prevent spam and enforce rate limits
To improve the Service

3. Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only in these cases:

Public events: Event details you submit (title, description, category, date, time, location) are displayed publicly on the map and event listings. Your name may be visible to other users as the event creator.
Service providers: We use Vercel (hosting), Supabase (database), Google (authentication), and Stripe (payments) to operate the Service. These providers process data as necessary to provide their services.
Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights, safety, or property.

4. Data Retention

Account information is retained as long as your account exists. Event data is retained indefinitely for historical reference but past events are not displayed publicly. You can delete your events at any time through the Service.

You may:

Delete events you have created at any time
Request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us at privacy@northcast.ca
Withdraw location permissions through your browser settings
Revoke Google sign-in access through your Google account settings

6. Cookies and Local Storage

We use essential cookies for authentication (session management). We use localStorage to save your layer preferences. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

7. Children’s Privacy

The Service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of material changes by updating the date at the top of this page.
